Stability

The past week I’ve been a little busy with matters unrelated to both photography and the blog, more about that further down in this post. It appears though as the blog have reached some sort of stability even without loads of posts being made and have remained more or less in the same ranking spot over the week with just minor fluctuations, it has remained between postion number 26 and 28 at Bloggportalen and is still in the Top 30. At Blogtoplist it has dropped slightly, it’s at the moment in position 12, but they measure a little differently. Bloggportalen is the ranking service that matters though as it has more blogs registered and measured.

Over the week I’ve been hard at work building a foundation for a retirement fund using crypto and some of the investments have begun paying off while others still need a little more time to reach that point. There will be loads of posts coming on this, if you want to join me on the journey to financial security without investing any money out of pocket please keep an eye on the category Crypto at http://metalphoto.blog/category/categories/comm/crypto/ for tips on where to go, what to do and what not to do. By all means, feel free to join the sites linked and start building your own crypto future as well.

New week begins tomorrow, let’s see how far the blog can go then. Next goal is to reach Top 20 at Bloggportalen. Thank you all for visiting, you are all part of the success.

On the rise

Although it has been a somewhat slow week here at the blog, I’ve been a little occupied with fixing errors in the scripts and also getting the crypto crap rolling, the ranking remain being on the rise. At Bloggportalen I am now ranked as number 27 which takes me to the Top 30 in Sweden. At Blogtoplist, the smaller ranking service, I’m at position 10 so there I am in the Top 10.

Rewritten

What a day it has been. Installed a couple of plugin modules to the blog script and with my luck two of them didn’t play well with each other. I wanted exactly those two as there aren’t any other with just those features I wanted so there was only one thing to do, sit myself down and start doing some reprogramming to get them to work together. It has taken me over 12 hours of rewriting the modules as well as changing necessary bits of the script itself. Hence the massive silence from my end today.

Working hard or hardly working?

Sudden jump

Sunday and I’m here for the weekly update on the stats. In the beginning of the week the blog reached a smashing rank of 32, that’s quite a jump from last weeks position which was 43. This means that I have gotten myself into the Top 40 at Bloggportalen (with approximately a third of all blogs in Sweden registered and thereby the largest ranking service).

At Blogtoplist (with 34.000+ blogs listed) the blog is now ranked as number 1 in the category Image Blogs and in all categories combined it is now ranked as number 22. This means that here I’m in the Top 30 already.

New week begins tomorrow, let’s see how far the blog can go then. Next goal is to reach Top 30 at Bloggportalen and Top 20 at Blogtoplist. It may take an extra week to do so though as for part of this last week the tracking haven’t been working properly due to a scripting error at the blog so the current ranking isn’t quite correct, an error which now has been dealt with.

Steady pace

The incline has slowed down a bit, at these levels you don’t rise to glory just as quickly as you do at the lower ranks, but it has gone forward at a steady pace. The blog has gone from ranking as number 46 to now being ranked as number 43 at Bloggportalen. At Blogtoplist it has also climbed a bit and alternate between the number 1 and 2 position in the category Image Blogs, but in all categories combined there it is now ranked as number 27.

Still aiming for the next goal to rank in the Top 40 at the larger ranking service, Bloggportalen, while at Blogtoplist it’s now in the Top 30. A new week begins tomorrow, let’s see how far the blog can go then. Thank you all for visiting, you are all part of the success.

Through the roof

It’s been an odd week for me with a lot of work offline and with other things online than blogging, not so much photography done either I’m afraid. Still the stats are pretty nice though, the ranking at Bloggportalen have gone from 59 to 46 and is currently balancing a little between 46 and 47. Yep, I’m in the Top 50 now, next goal is to get into the Top 40.

At Blogtoplist the blog is ranked as number 2 in the category Image Blogs for the second week running and in all categories combined it is now ranked as number 35. In this ranking list I’m already in the Top 40. Yep, I’m going through the roof.

Bloggportalen is more interesting though as more than a third of blogs in Sweden is registered here, 160,000+ compared to 34,000 at Blogtoplist. New week begins tomorrow, let’s see how far the blog can go then. Thank you all for visiting, you are all part of the success.

The Golden Ratio

In this day and age when just about everyone easily can publish images, social media platforms enables this, and everyone through their cellulars have a digital camera at hand we are flooded with pictures of various quality. Although anyone can take a photo not everyone should, there are many lacking knowledge on how to compose a good image. Someone said just the other day that there were huge differences between his photos and the ones taken by a photographer, but he had no idea why this was.

To create a harmonius picture you need to think about where things are placed within the frame. The first rule of engagement is to learn and use The Golden Ratio. This is something that was known already by the ancient Greeks, so it’s not some modern idea but something that has been adhered to for millennia by painters, architects and mathematicians to name a few. Actually it’s something you even can find everywhere in nature as well.

The Golden Ratio is not a difficult thing to learn either, you can see it as “the two thirds rule” if you want to. Put into words A+B is to A as A is to B. In practical terms, divide the image into three thirds and put the horizon, buildings, people or whatever the motif is in one third or on the dividing line (imaginary line that is). Below are two examples of this placement.

Please note that the two thirds rule isn’t exactly the same as The Golden Ratio, but it’s a working approximation that will help you generate better photos. The first two examples show the two thirds with less motif, but off course the opposite will work just as fine or depending on the motif better. The third image falls into the latter category.

Holy Crap

Right now all I can say is a resounding “Holy Crap!”, it has been quite an interesting week. Last week, with all Bloggportalen categories combined the blog ranked numer 105 of 160,000+ blogs and at that point I would have been content if it had entered the Top 100 during the week that has passed. Now I sit here totally flabbergasted, it has been climbing steadily day by day and is now ranked as a whopping number 59. Just 9 positions to go and it will be in the Top 50 which places it in the front page list giving it a whole lot more visibility.

In the category Photo & Art which is the main category for the blog it entered the week as number 7 and has since then taken the position of number 4. It amuses me that the blog of Bingo Rimér, Swedens probably most well known photographer, got pushed down to number 7. Imagine, I have 8 times as many readers/visitors as that Lotto person (or whatever the hell his name is) and he is the most famous camera jockey in the country.

Bloggportalen is not the only ranking service used, another one is Blogtoplist with 34,000 registered blogs. The difference with this one is that it is reset every Sunday at midnight so everyone starts from scratch, at Bloggportalen the tracking is continously the last 7 days and it’s updated every hour upon the hour. In their category Image Blogs this blog ranks as number 2 and in all categories combined it is ranked as number 73.

Bloggportalen is more interesting though as more than a third of blogs in Sweden is registered here. New week begins tomorrow, let’s see how far the blog can go then. Thank you all for visiting, you are all part of the success.

Worthless

I weep for humanity!

After performing a totally unscientific experiment I have found that social medias and cellular phones (ie smartphones) are stupidifying people. First I made two posts on Facebook with the link for this blog, in the first post I actually asked people to help out getting the newly moved blog to get properly off the ground and give it a flying start in the rankings at Bloggportalen and in the second post I simply informed them that if everyone in my contact list visited the blog once a week it would get in to the Top 40 and stay there.

The result? Merely 5 visits in two days…

Next I made a nonsense post with the rear end of a chicken (second image) with the text “Let’s see how awake everyone is. What is this?”. In half an hour there were 7 comments with suggestions, 11 now and still counting.

The conclusion? Facebook is worthless and people actually rather make more of an effort commenting nonsense than click a simple link to help a social media friend with his/her own company to get ahead. Mind you, some of these are relatives and IRL friends. Who needs enemies with friends like these?
